Blue Zones
There’s one thing that most of the blue zones have in common that few people get- it’s poverty. It’s what many wise people call- the gift of desperation.
Most of the “Blue Zones” had no other “choice” but to depend on Creation, Creatures, and their Community to live. Which is strangely enough, the very foundation of health. It’s the hard realization that we are interconnected, interrelated, and interdependent. It’s this truth that awakens us to the lie- that we are individual “entitled” consumers and we have some God given right to pick and choose, and piece together some nonsensical diet that feeds into the delusion of “individual health” regardless of the costs or how it affects anyone else.
Truthfully, the world of health and wellness is a capitalist fabrication. One day someone is telling you to take supplements that could definitely contribute to cancer, and the next day they are telling you to take supplements to heal the body of cancer. Yet, even if they are right, both of these approaches are still a refusal to admit we cannot hack our health.
Rather than accepting the lie that the body is a machine model which requires endless tinkering, we must refuse the way of the expert, the health entrepreneur, and the doctor who believe health can be reduced to a formula.
As long as we are unwilling to go a totally different way and stop reducing health to a physical result, food to calories, loving our bodies to a list, and “eating and exercising” to a means to an end- we cannot begin to think, feel, or move in ways that honor and strengthen our health.
And as long as we are on our own- staring at the sun, cold plunging, and following the long list of what the “science” says improves health- then we are going to avoid everything and everyone we desperately need to “BE HEALTHY.”
I truly believe that deep down we know health cannot be produced by a scientific formula.
I think we know health is rooted in love, and we thrive when we are connected. We flourish when we can be present, and be a receiver and giver of hope, joy, beauty, wisdom, and light!!!
The best thing for our “health” is not a cup of blueberries or raw milk. Rather it is to reconnect with Life. Participate in a real living community like your life depended on it- because it does. Our “health” depends on earth, on creatures, and most definitely on the Creator of all things.
We cannot outrun the human need to be in relationships that are loving and true. We cannot physically bypass our human being design and how we are created to live in good soil
I like Dan! I like the Blue Zones! What Dan is failing to mention is these communities formed because their lives depended on their spiritual, emotional, mental, physical, and relational connection, and they were willing to receive and give everything. They were willing to work for the good of the whole community because they knew they had no chance to make it own on their own.
